Join tour Kampala and transfer to the hotel. Time at leisure to relax by the pool or visit the capital city overnight and dinner at Cassia Lodge or Red chill Kampala Hotel
After breakfast we will depart Kampala and head west to Fort Portal. On your way look out for black and white colobus monkeys as many of these primates are hiding in trees along the road. Fort Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon and is famous for the many tea plantations. From this lovely town we will continue to Kibale National Park for a stay within the tropical forest. Overnight and dinner at Primate Lodge or Kibale Forest Camp.
Today the forest opens its doors for sensational chimp tracking. Kibale Forest is reputable for having the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa. Enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rainforest in search of the wild chimpanzee, red tailed monkey, black and white colobus monkey and many others. After lunch we transfer to Bigodi for a complete different walk. Here you will have the choice to join a guided Swamp Walk through the Wetland Sanctuary, which is famous for the many birds and primates that live in this area. Alternatively, you may decide to go for a Village Walk. Accompanied by a guide who can tell you everything about the traditional customs and lifestyle of the inhabitants, you will follow the village path and visit a primary school, Catholic Church, traditional homesteads, learn about the crops and listen to the story telling of the locals. Both activities are an initiative of the inhabitants of Bigodi Village and the revenues are shared by the local community. Overnight and dinner at Primate Lodge or Kibale Forest Camp.
After Breakfast drive through Fort Portal and then proceed with Bundibugyo meandering Road for about 59km from Fort Portal to the UWA gate of Sempaya, and then proceed 6km to the park Headquarters at Ntandi. 4WD vehicles are much preferred for this circuit. Overnight and Dinner Semuliki Safari Lodge/Ntoroko Game Lodge (Up Market options) or UWA Bandas Budget.
After breakfast take hour-long trail to the outer, “male” spring leads through a patch of forest where red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys are common. A tree house en-route provides an aerial view. A 30-minute hike through palm forest from the main road leads to the inner, “female” spring, dominated by a boiling geyser. Eggs and Matooke (green plantain) can be cooked in these boiling waters and enjoyed by hungry hikers!
In the afternoon go for nature walk or you may choose to relax. And for birders who make it to Semuliki will be rewarded with some of Africa’s best forest birding. Sempaya and Ntandi provide excellent viewing of the birds including the White-crested Hornbill, Red-billed Dwarf Hornbill, and Piping Hornbill, Yellow-throated Nectar, Great blue and Ross’s Turacos. The area around Kirumia River is another top birding spot. The shoebill stork is regularly seen at close quarters on Lake Albert and forest walks are good for tracking water birds. Go back to your lodge for Dinner and Relaxing. Overnight and Dinner Semuliki Safari Lodge/Ntoroko Game Lodge (Up Market options) or UWA Bandas Budget.
